Well, I got sick and took a few days off. Having nothing to do, I surfed the net until I saw this game called Terraria. Let's just say that I got precious few hours of sleep for the rest of my days off. After experimenting for a bit, I decided to journal what I learned about the game in a blog. Of course, in a true blogger's fashion, I cannot decide on the blog's title so I guess I just typed randomly when I created this one~
So, let's get the basics out of the way so that I can post something more exciting! :D
1.) What is Terraria? Basically, Terraria is Minecraft and Spelunky's love child- in the sense that it has Spelunky's 2d vertical feel with the crafting mechanics of Minecraft. It can be classified as a sandbox game.
2.) How do I get the game? Steam.
3.) WHAT?! It costs money?! Yes. $9.99 USD, to be exact. (Or about 440 Php in my local currency)
4.) Can my PC/Laptop/Netbook handle the massive and breathtaking graphics of Terraria? Yes. Here's the system requirements:
- OS: Windows Xp, Vista, 7
- Processor: 1.6 Ghz
- Memory: 512MB
- Hard Disk Space: 200MB
- Video Card: 128mb Video Memory, capable of Shader Model 1.1
- DirectX®: 9.0c or Greater
5.) HELP! It doesn't run! Ok, here's some basic troubleshooting. First, make sure that you have .NET 4.0 installed, which you can get here. Then check if you have the XNA Framework 4.0 installed, which you can get here. You shouldn't have any problems if those two are installed properly.
6.) Does it run on a Mac? Yes.
7.) Does it run on Linux (Ubuntu/Arch/Puppy/whichever flavor)? Sadly, No. Even the server software doesn't work, which sucks. You can rig it work with wine though. Good Luck.
8.) How's the multiplayer? A lot like Diablo 2's. You can take your character, his full inventory and his piggy bank (Yes, only the piggy bank) to another person's world. PvP looks like fun though.
9.) How do I host a multiplayer session? For local network (over lan cables or wireless), just start TerrariaServer.exe on your Terraria folder and follow the instructions. Get your ip address (start > run > cmd > ipconfig), double check your (and your client's) firewall and make sure that port 7777 (or whichever port you chose) is good, then allow your server to start the host. At the client(s), just choose Multiplayer then type the IP and Port of the server.
10.) How about Multiplayer over the internet? A bit more complicated involving services like Hamachi. I haven't tried it yet so.. Here's a tutorial.
11.) Ok, I got the game running and have created a world and a character. Now what? Wait for my next post ^^; Anyway, just experiment for your first world and try to survive the night~
#YeA #Terraria *signing out*
